Who Can Join?

Neighborhood groups are formed into "clubs" which meet monthly in members' homes. Activities include crafts, games and values training. Often the groups plan outings, field trips and camp-outs plus there are four Nation events each year---Fall Campout, Family Skate night, Pinewood Derby, and Spring Campout.
These programs set aside a "special time" for the parent and child to learn from each other and to develop a foundation and communication that can steady the child to learn from each other and to develop a foundation and communication that can steady the child through the difficult years of growing up.
Y-Adventure Guides Program is For Parents and Children Ages 5-12
Time is a problem for most families; especially single parent families or where both parents work. The YMCA has designed its parent/child programs for both boys and girls in kindergarten through eighth grades and their parents with this in mind. The emphasis is on spending quality time together! Get involved with a group that seeks new experiences and adventures, learns new skills and provides an atmosphere in which you can grow with your child.
Purpose
The Y-Adventure Guides program is a nationwide program sponsored by the YMCA with the purpose of developing a lifelong relationship between parent and child.
The Club
A club, the basic unit of the program, consists of 8 to 10 dads/moms and their children. Club meetings are held once a month on a rotating basis at the member's home. Meeting activities include songs, games, stories and crafts planned by members.
The Nation
The collection of clubs of fathers and children and mothers and children get together once a month as a "Nation" for events such as seasonal camping trips, Christmas parade, parent-child banquet and a pinewood derby.
Events
Spaghetti Dinner, Pancake Breakfast, Father/Daughter Dance, Mother/Son Dance and many other fun, creative, and relationship building events. See the Events (link) page or go to the cam-yguides.org calendar site.
Who Can Join
Any parent (mom or dad) with a 5-12 year old son or daughter is eligible to join. Only YMCA members and can participate in the Parent-Child programs.
Program Fee: $55 per parent and child. $20 each additional child.
Annual Membership fee:
$15 per individual. Family Membership
$55 for three or more participants.
